My Mad Fat Diary, by Rae Earl, portrays Rae's life after being in a psychiatric hospital, after a mental breakdown.
She has the problems most 17 year olds have, a mother who she doesn't get on with, self-esteem issues and BOYS.
Although she doesn't go into detail about her breakdown or her stay in the hospital, other than that it was filled with older people, she does give some insight on how it is to live with a mental illness. She mentions on a few occasions her OCD tendencies, like she has to check all sockets before leaving the house in case one is on and a fire starts.
She mostly talks about school and the work she has to do for A-Levels. As someone who has just finished A-Levels, and sat them while suffering with mental illnesses, this was interesting. To see that others struggled to find the motivation to study and do all the work expected of you is great. It makes you feel like you are not alone.
Of course, one thing that I really liked is that we both have the same birthday! I love finding people with the same birthday as me!
I would really recommend it. You can get it from:
